The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). The AAU was founded in 1888 to establish standards and uniformity in amateur sports. During its early years, the AAU served as a leader in international sport representing the U.S. in the international sports federations. The AAU worked closely with the Olympic movement to prepare athletes for the Olympic Games. After the Amateur Sports Act of 1978, the AAU has focused its efforts into providing sports programs for all participants of all ages beginning at the grass roots level. The philosophy of "Sports for All, Forever," is shared by more than 720,000 participants and over 150,000 volunteers.

What AAU Sports are offered by the World S.M.A.S.H. Organization?

World S.M.A.S.H. is currently offering AAU Basketball at this time and has one of the top AAU Basketball Programs in the state of Georgia. We serve grades 3rd - 8th and 9th - 11th.  The teams compete in AAU certified events against other nation’s top AAU programs, which helps our youth obtain college scholarships by participating in our AAU basketball program that develops amateur athletes & providing collegiate exposure during showcases, national-televised games, and tournaments.

Why we offer AAU Sports?

Young athletes between the ages of 6 to 17 that lived in rural areas outside of their metro’s county population area and suburbs without a full array of youth sports with strong financial support. Usually have a late start in organized sports, especially rural girls, which robs them of the opportunity for physical activity, coaching, being part of a team, learning skills, and substantial time away from “negative recreation” (drugs, violence, or sexual activities).

Clinical studies have shown that sports and recreation programs can help youth establish lifelong, healthy, physical activity patterns. Regular physical activity can ward off life-threatening diseases; reduce feelings of depression and anxiety; help control weight and obesity; and build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints, according to the President’s Council on Physical Fitness.

The young athletes in these rural areas must have the opportunity for a successful start in education and sports regardless of age, race, gender, family composition, income, or community.

In response to this significant disparity, the WORLD S.M.A.S.H. ORGANIZATION will provide sports and educational programs necessary for these rural children to have an equal opportunity for organized sports by increasing both sport participation rates and healthy development of the rural area’s youth. Providing young high school athletes with the chance to be discovered by college coaches. This organization will coordinate free events that teach these teens how to improve so that they can maximize their public exposure.

The ultimate goal is to rally community support by aiding rural athletes on their course to be successful both on and off the court.
